Posted OnMay 17, 2024

Grand Forks, N.D. - Altru, Safe Kids Grand Forks and Blue Zones Project Grand Forks encourage you to use pedal power to celebrate “Bike to Work Day” on Friday, May 24.

“As a healthcare organization, dedicated to making a difference for our community, we encourage everyone to make time for wellness next Friday,” said Kristi Hall-Jiran, Chief Partnership and Philanthropy Officer at Altru. “Getting outside, going for an energizing ride is great for our cardiovascular health. ‘Bike to Work Day’ helps us support biking in our community.”

Volunteers will be stationed at bike racks at the Altru Hospital campus in the morning and afternoon.

Riders caught wearing their helmets will receive a free bike benefit program sticker, redeemable all year long for discounts at local businesses including the Altru Gift Shop.

Carma Hanson, Coordinator of Safe Kids Grand Forks noted, “adults riding bike, and wearing a helmet, set a great example for kids to engage in the same healthy and safe activities. We are here to provide our community with the education and helmets to make summer bike riding a safe option for youth and adults alike.”

“Supporting events like ‘Bike to Work Day’ aren’t just about getting from point A to point B, it encourages natural movement and increase activity which helps to improve physical and mental wellbeing while building a stronger community,” Nicole Benson, Blue Zones Project Grand Forks Director of Community Programs stated.

Anyone needing a helmet can contact Safe Kids Grand Forks for a discounted price the week of May 20. Orders and payment processing can be made on the Safe Kids Grand Forks website at safekidsgf.com. Contact safekids@altru.org for more information.
