Altru Honors National Healthcare Decisions Day 2013

Grand Forks, ND – Altru Health System, along with other national, state and community organizations, is leading an effort to highlight the importance of advanced healthcare decision making. The effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16, 2013, as National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD).

“Patients have the right to control decisions concerning the use or refusal of medical care, including life-prolonging treatment. One way to control those decisions is by completing a health care directive,” said Nancy Joyner, Palliative Care clinical nurse specialist. “It’s our hope that on National Healthcare Decisions Day, more people will have meaningful conversations about their health care decisions and make their wishes known.”

Advance directive forms are available at AltruHospital in the Social Work department, Pastoral Services, the Medical Records Department, from the Hospital Supervisor or from Altru Home Services staff. Join Altru and Americans across the country in making future healthcare decisions known to family, friends and healthcare providers. Share your wishes and complete your advance directive.
