Altru Cancer Center Golf Tournament Raises Over $89,000 for Filling the Gap

Grand Forks, ND – Golfers, sponsors and volunteers came together for the 12th Annual Altru Cancer Center Golf Tournament June 12, raising over $89,000 for Filling the Gap. Filling the Gap helps provide financially eligible patients with gas cards, nutritional supplements and lodging assistance when overnight stays are necessary. These items are not typically covered by insurance, yet can dramatically affect a patient’s quality of life.

“We are so fortunate to have passionate sponsors and golfers who have supported patients through this tournament year after year,” says Stephanie DeJean, tournament coordinator. “Filling the Gap provides over $10,000 in support each month to financially eligible patients with cancer.”

In the past twelve years, the Altru Cancer Center Golf Tournament has raised over $856,000 for Filling the Gap. Tournament co-chairmen Tim Crary, of Prudential Crary Real Estate, and Kevin Ritterman, of Dakota Commercial and Development, have played a crucial role in establishing the event. This will be the final year Tim Crary serves as tournament co-chair; he is retiring from the Altru Health Foundation Board of Directors after serving the maximum term.

“Volunteer leadership is a critical component of a successful fundraiser. Kevin and Tim have been instrumental in the annual success of the Altru Cancer Center Golf Tournament,” explains Jon Green, executive director of Altru Health Foundation. “Thanks to their dedication and commitment, thousands of patients receiving cancer care at Altru will receive support.”
