Altru Announces Director of Physical Medicine Services

Grand Forks, ND – Altru Health System is proud to announce Diane Gunderson has accepted the position of director of physical medicine services. In this role, Gunderson is responsible for the inpatient rehabilitation program, physiatry clinic practice, physical medicine and therapy services, and specialty clinics. 

A native of Hibbing, Minn., Gunderson received a bachelor of science in occupational therapy from the University of North Dakota. She also graduated from the Western Institute of Psychodrama in Phoenix, Ariz., as a psychodramatist. A form of group therapy, psychotherapy allows patients to dramatize their own or assigned life situations in order to achieve insight into personalities, relationships, conflicts and emotional problems and to alter faulty behavior patterns. 

Gunderson began her work in healthcare with United Hospital, where she was the director of psychiatric occupational therapy, managing the psychiatric occupational therapy department, therapeutic recreation services, child life specialists, the physical restorative occupational therapy department and hand therapy center. At the same time, she practiced as a psychodramatist in the department of psychiatry and chemical dependency. In 1996, Gunderson joined Altru’s human resources as a human resource generalist. For the past 11 years, she has served as manager of physical medicine and therapy services and specialty clinics at Altru Health System.
