Altru Physicians Receive New Leadership Roles

Grand Forks, ND –  Dr. Joshua Deere, Dr. Yvonne Gomez, Dr. Fatima Khan and Dr. Laura Lizakowski receive new leaderships roles at Altru Health System. These roles signify their experience, leadership and commitment to Altru Health System.

Dr. Joshua Deere has been appointed Medical Director, Primary Care. He is a board certified family physician. Dr. Deere served in several leadership positions including Chair of Family Medicine, ND Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors and UND School of Medicine Community Faculty before receiving his new role. Dr. Deere completed his residency at Altru Family Medicine Residency. Before earning his medical degree from the University of North Dakota, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Mayville State University.

Dr. Yvonne Gomez has been appointed Medical Director, Quality and Care Management. Dr. Gomez has many experiences that have prepared her for this role. She serves as a member of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota’s Clinical Quality Committee, Altru’s Credentials Committee and Altru’s Bylaws Committee. She serves as the Medical Director of Truyu and North Dakota Grand Forks Region Special Olympics. Dr. Gomez has also served as Altru Health System Chief of Staff. Before joining Altru, Dr. Gomez earned her medical degree from the University of North Dakota. She completed her residency there.

Allergist, Dr. Fatima Khan, has been appointed Medical Director, Education. She her medical degree from the University of Illinois: College of Medicine in Chicago. She completed a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Yale New Haven Hospital. After working in internal medicine and pediatrics, Dr. Khan fulfilled an allergy and immunology fellowship at University of Washington in Seattle. She is board certified in internal medicine and general pediatrics.

Palliative Care physician Laura Lizakowski has been appointed Medical Director, Cancer and Medical Specialty Care. Dr. Lizakowski completed her internship and Palliative Medicine fellowship at Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin. She pursued her medical degree and bachelor’s degree from University of North Dakota. 

“These additions to our leadership team will help us continue to deliver world-class care to our residents across the region,” said Altru President, Dr. Eric Lunn.
