Altru’s Dr. Joel Walz appointed as Grand Forks Health Officer
Grand Forks, ND – Dr. Joel Walz, family medicine physician with Altru Health System, was appointed as the new Health Officer for Grand Forks by Mayor, Dr. Michael Brown, as of August 3, 2015.
The Health Officer is a member of the Grand Forks Board of Health and serves as the medical consultant to the Grand Forks Public Health Department. In this role, the health officer provides expertise on public health issues, including the prevention of chronic and communicable diseases, signs standing orders for health care services, and consults with public health personnel on data trends and emerging public health threats. The health officer has legal authority to abate public health nuisances and contain communicable diseases that may be present in the community including Grand Forks County.
The Grand Forks Public Health Department has had a long standing relationship with Altru Health System to provide services of a public health officer through a contractual arrangement and we greatly appreciate this collaboration.
