April is Donate Life Month

Grand Forks, ND –National Donate Life Month is observed each April to encourage people to register as donor, honor those who have given the gift of life and congratulate those who have benefited from donor gifts. Altru Health System is a strong supporter of organ and tissue donation. In the United States, over 123,000 people wait for an organ transplant with over 3,600 of them residing in our region.

Becoming a donor is simple. Licensed drivers and state ID card holders can register online.

»   Register in North Dakota

»   Register in Minnesota

After the decision to become a donor has been made, it is important to communicate these wishes with family and friends. Since 2006, donors at Altru Health System have provided 79 life-saving organs for transplant, 14 organs for research and 5,460 gifts through tissue donation. Eye donors have restored sight to hundreds of cornea recipients. In 2014, Our Living Legacy donor wall was installed and dedicated at Altru.
