Dr. Francis Ssali Joins Altru Health System

Altru Health System, Grand Forks, ND –Francis Ssali, MD, will join the infectious disease team at Altru Health System. “I like learning about my patients, discovering their interests and talking about their families. I ask questions and to find similarities,” says Dr. Francis Ssali. “I see patients over a long period of time and we become friends. It’s important for patients to know that I care about them."

Dr. Ssali is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Ssali earned his medical degree from Makerere University Medical School in Kampala, Uganda. He completed a year internship at New York Medical College at Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship in infectious disease from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. Dr. Ssali served as an attending physician at the Ministry of Health at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda, diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and injuries. A majority of his time there was spent working with patients with HIV.

Dr. Ssali grew up in Uganda. He believes in the power of patients and physicians working together to make the healthcare decision. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, soccer and historical studies.

Altru’s Infectious Disease specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Altru’s Infectious Disease department provides an international travel clinic to make trips abroad safer and more enjoyable by providing immunizations for diseases not typically found in the United States. Anyone who will be traveling abroad can make appointments with Altru’s Infectious Disease. During these appointments, patients will meet with physicians, receive appropriate vaccines and education. Infectious disease doctors provide leadership for the Infection Control department and antibiotic stewardship programs at Altru Health System.
