Includes Access to a Centers of Excellence Program
featuring Mayo Clinic
MINNETONKA, Minn. —Medica and Altru Health System today announced a new health plan for individuals and families in northwestern Minnesota and northeastern North Dakota. The plan, Altru Prime by Medica, is available for a January 1, 2016 effective date. It can be purchased starting Nov. 1, 2015 on MNSure, Minnesota’s public health insurance exchange and the health insurance exchange for North Dakota available on HealthCare.gov. The product also is available directly from insurance brokers or Medica.
In Minnesota, Altru Prime by Medica will be available in six counties: Kittson, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau. In North Dakota, it will be available in eight counties: Benson, Eddy, Grand Forks, Griggs, Nelson, Ramsey, Steele and Walsh.
A key feature of Altru Prime by Medica is the relationship Medica has formed with Mayo Clinic for a Centers of Excellence program. The program allows patients to receive care at Mayo Clinic and provides a travel, lodging and meal stipend for the patient and a companion (two travel companions for patients under age 18) for authorized conditions.
Altru Prime by Medica includes access to more than 30 primary and specialty clinics, 13 hospitals, and a large localized network of convenience care, urgent care and outpatient centers throughout northwestern Minnesota and northeastern North Dakota.
“Medica and Altru Health System are committed to making care more efficient and accessible in the region and Altru Prime by Medica does that by providing a seamless care experience,” said Dannette Coleman, Medica senior vice president for individual and family business. “Added to that is access to the renowned Mayo Clinic in a novel way that provides peace of mind to individuals and families experiencing significant health care issues.”
“We are pleased to work together with Medica to offer a product that is a real benefit to consumers and fully provides for their needs. Even more, if further complex care is needed, having access to Mayo Clinic provides a service that is second to none,” said Dennis Reisnour, Chief Planning Executive.
Altru Prime by Medica members will have access to other additional resources designed to help them improve their health and understand their health care. These include access to Healthy Living with Medica and Health Advocate. Healthy Living with Medica features an array of online personalized wellness programs as well as discounts for gym memberships and personal trainers. Health Advocate provides independent and confidential assistance to members. Health Advocates can help members find a physician, understand benefits, schedule doctor appointments and clarify billing statements.
Serving about 1.5 million members, Medica is a health insurance company headquartered in Minneapolis and active in the Upper Midwest. The non-profit company provides health care coverage in the employer, individual, Medicaid, Medicare and Medicare Part D markets in Minnesota and a growing number of counties in Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
