Altru Health System Recognized by The Center for Disease Control and Prevention as a Million Hearts® 2015 Hypertension Control Champion
Grand Forks, N.D. – Altru Health System was one of 18 organizations throughout the U.S. recognized today by The Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a Million Hearts® 2015 Hypertension Control Champion. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke, the first and fifth leading causes of death in the United States.
Million Hearts® launched the Hypertension Control Challenge to motivate health care teams across the country to identify and connect with patients who have uncontrolled high blood pressure. To be eligible, entrants shared verifiable high blood pressure control data and highlighted successful strategies and best practices adopted by the practice or system, such as the use of health information technology and team-based care. All of the 2015 Champions achieved blood pressure control rates at or above the Million Hearts® target of 70 percent of adult patients with hypertension. Between October 2014 and September 2015, Altru achieved a rating of 78.48 percent. This distinction reflects Altru’s commitment to provide world-class care to the residents of the region.
"We appreciate the CDC's recognition for our efforts to control blood pressure, prevent heart attacks, and improve our patients' health." said Mike Little, Altru's Manager of Primary Care Programs. "We look forward to using this challenge as a way to publicly share our strategies for successfully controlling hypertension." According to the CDC, approximately one in three U.S. adults has high blood pressure. There's only one way to know whether you have high blood pressure - have a doctor or other health professional measure it.
