Altru to Hold Cherished Children Memorial Service on August 9

Grand Forks, N.D. – Altru Health System will hold its annual Cherished Children Memorial Service at 6:30  p.m. Tuesday, August 9 on the front grounds of Altru Hospital. This event seeks to support families who have lost a child by any means, at any stage of life.

“We hope to provide a safe and comfortable place for families who have lost a child,” shared Penny Millspaugh, coordinator of Altru’s Wings of Hope Bereavement Services. “By coming together with others who understand what it’s like to lose a child, we strive to provide a bridge from suffering to hope.”

This year, our theme is “A Sibling’s Grief.” Speakers will include Sue Maris, coordinator of Camp Good Mourning and Shalee Lorenz. Participating organizations include: TEARS Suicide Prevention Project, Altru’s Child Life Program, Altru’s Wings of Hope Bereavement Services, Camp Good Mourning, Altru’s Holistic and Integrative Team (H.I.T.), featuring Music Therapist Leslie Saulsbury, Altru’s Pastoral Care Team , Higher Ground Band and Altru Health Foundation. Certified therapy dogs and their trainers will also be in attendance. We will also offer a separate kid’s tent, providing activities, stories and music for children while adults participate in the main program. Children age six to 18 are welcome to participate.
