Regional Services

Altru Health System strives to achieve optimum health for all residents in our region, which includes 200,000 residents of northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Altru has developed a cohesive network of health care resources to bring high quality, specialized healthcare services to residents at the local level.

Through our collaborative relationship with 14 critical access hospitals, regional clinics, regional long term care centers, and rural health clinics, we provide patients and medical providers with access to direct patient services, support technology, contracted services, and professional education opportunities.

Emergency Medical Services and Training

Altru's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff takes pride in the delivery of quality service to our customers whether they require emergency, urgent or elective cares.

Altru Health System's Emergency Medical Services is an integral portion of our Level II Trauma Designation. EMS also offers an extensive array of education and public service. Altru’s EMS program provides community based emergency response education and training throughout the region.

Home Services

Altru Home Services is an interdisciplinary team trained to help patients live more independently in their own homes.  Altru Home Services provides many home-based services including:

Regional Technology and Telemedicine

Altru Telemedicine connects rural patients with providers in a variety of specialties. Telemedicine consults improve patient outcomes and expand services throughout the region as well as reduce travel time for patients and providers.

The technology presents a secure and live, interactive video and audio connection between a patient at their home town hospital and a specialist at Altru Health System in Grand Forks.

Rehabilitation Therapy Services

Serving rural patients on an outpatient basis and in regional healthcare facilities, Altru's Outreach Therapy team uses a comprehensive approach to treat patients of all ages and needs. Our physical, occupational and speech therapists work closely with the patient's physician, family and other team members to develop the most effective rehabilitation program possible.

Work Services

As a community health resource, regional work services develops partnerships t provide preventative services and comprehensive injury management services for the employee and employer. Services include:

  • Workability assessments
  • Work conditioning/hardening
  • Ergonomic consulting/education
  • On-site job analysis
  • Individualized annual training
  • Development of work safety programs designed for employees
  • Post offer screens customized to business requirements
  • Acute physical and occupational therapy treatment

Environment of Care

Altru provides consultative services in the area of Environment of Care and Life Safety Standards. To ensure safe and consistent care across the region, professionals and experienced regulatory healthcare safety and compliance partner with healthcare professionals throughout the region to provide both on and off-site consulting.

The consulting services are focused on regulatory standards necessary to be compliant with Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Topics include:

  • General safety issues
  • Security hazardous materials and waste management
  • Medical equipment safety
  • Utilities management
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Fire safety
