Men ages 55 to 69 should use shared decision making with their physician and proceed based on the man’s preference. Follow-up frequency may depend on PSA (prostate-specific antigen) level, but on average is every one to two years. This screening is not routinely recommended for men over age 70 or under age 54. If you have a high risk due to family history, screening may start at age 40.
