Insurance Information
As a service to our patients, Altru Health System provides an Insurance Department with trained staff to assist you in filing insurance claims.
If you have medical insurance coverage, our staff will prepare your insurance claims for all services rendered at Altru Health System and submit these claims to your insurance company. There is no charge for this service. It is the patient's responsibility, however, to provide our Insurance Department with required insurance information. They need the name and address of your insurance company, your policy number, the type of policy (family or single) and the effective date of insurance coverage. Family policies require that patients provide the names and birth dates of all family members. If you file your own insurance claims, Altru will provide the information you need upon request.
Altru is a participating Medicare provider. This means that Medicare will pay Altru Health System for services provided to Medicare patients. If you qualify for Medicare, it is your responsibility to pay any Medicare deductibles, co-payments and non-covered charges. It is important that you provide us with your Medicare number and effective date. When we have this information, we can file claims directly to Medicare. Altru will also assist in filing claims to your supplemental policies if you provide us the information requested of you, the policyholder. Please keep in mind that insurance is not a substitute for payment to Altru Health System. Some insurance companies pay fixed allowances for certain procedures, others pay a fixed percentage of the charge. It is the patient's responsibility to pay any deductible amount, co-insurance or other balances not paid by your insurance company.
