Screening Colonoscopy

A colonosopy is a medical procedure used to view the entire length of the colon. Colonoscopies detect polyps, inflamed tissue, ulcers, and abnormal growths. The procedure is used to help prevent colorectal cancer and look for early signs of colorectal cancer. It can help doctors diagnose changes in bowel habits, abdominal pains, bleeding, and reasons for weight loss.

Men and women age 50 or older, and those with a family history of colorectal cancer are encouraged to have regular screenings to help with prevention and early detection of colon cancer. Screenings can find precancerous polyps, which when removed, can prevent colorectal cancer. Early detection of colorectal cancer is important, as that is when treatment works best.
