Technology
Altru's Cardiology team offers the latest in cutting-edge technology to diagnose, treat, and even prevent cardiovascular disease, including cardiac imaging technology via 64-slice computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) scans, and participates in research studies such as the National Institute of Health's PEACE heart study.
Technology used in Altru's labs was the first of its kind in the United States.
Specialist Care
Cardiovascular Surgery – Two cardiovascular surgeons and a physician assistant make up the cardiovascular team at Altru. The team treats people who have disorders or disease related to the heart, aorta and blood vessels.
Cardiothoracic Surgery – Altru’s cardiothoracic providers specialize in the surgical treatment of diseases affecting organs inside the chest cavity. While cardiac surgery and thoracic surgery are separate surgical procedures, they are frequently grouped together as one surgical specialty as it encompasses surgery of the heart and great vessels, as well as other nearby organs.
Adult Congenital Heart Defect Clinic – Altru’s Cardiology team supports visiting specialists Dr. Rodrigo Rios and Dr. Joshua Wynne in providing an Adult Congenital Heart Defect Clinic once a month at Altru Main Clinic.
Providing care for adult patients with congenital heart defects, Drs. Rios and Wynne often treat diagnoses including cyanosis, shunts, and more. Together, with the support of Altru’s Cardiology team, we are able to provide specialized cardiology care for patients close to home.
