Joint Replacement Center
As a regional leader in knee and hip replacement, Altru’s Joint Replacement Center’s goal is to get patients back to their active routines as quickly as possible.
Altru is designated as a Blue Distinction® Center+ for Knee and Hip Replacement by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Blue Distinction Centers provide comprehensive knee and hip replacement services and outperform their peers in quality and safety measures.
At the core of the Joint Replacement Center is our comprehensive education and exercise program, beginning prior to surgery and continuing with group physical and occupational therapy after surgery. We use less invasive surgical procedures, which means less damage to surrounding tissue and faster recovery times. And, our unique group program provides excellent teaching and learning opportunities designed to jump start your recovery process.
Starting Spring of 2014, Altru's Joint Replacement Center will be located within Altru Specialty Center.

What to Expect
Over the course of your surgery, recovery and rehabilitation, we want you to know what to expect. Joint Replacement Center patients attend a comprehensive pre-op education class, which covers:
- pre-op physical therapy,
- the course of your hospitalization and
- discharge planning.
We provide a wellness-based approach to your care. As a joint replacement patient, you will wear your own clothing while in the hospital.
You'll experience the benefit of going through the recovery process with other patients who have had a hip or knee replaced. Other benefits include:
- dedicated physical and occupational therapy gyms,
- 22 private rooms and
- easy access in South Grand Forks.
Recovering from total joint replacement is easier if you have someone to help you along the way. That’s why the role of your coach is so important to your recovery.
Your coach is a person you designate for support and to help you prepare for and recover from your joint replacement procedure. This can be a spouse, friend or family member who will help and encourage you throughout the experience.
Each of our team members is specially trained to ensure a safe and successful recovery. Our expert team will work with you to meet your physical goals, as well as nurture your spirit. During your time with the Joint Replacement Center, you’ll encounter several members of our team:
- Orthopedic Surgeon
- Primary Care Provider
