The 17th Annual Altru Cancer Center Golf Tournament Raised $82,000 for Filling the Gap and Caring for Kids

Altru Health System, Grand Forks, ND – The largest fundraiser of the year for Filling the Gap and Caring for Kids, the Altru Cancer Center Golf Tournament, was held June 13 at the Grand Forks Country Club. Golfers, sponsors, and volunteers all came together and raised over $82,000. In its seventeen-year history the tournament has raised over $1 million for patients throughout the community and the region.

“Filling the Gap and Caring for Kids meet the needs of financially eligible patients of Altru Cancer Center and Altru Pediatrics that extend beyond our walls to improve patients’ quality of life during their journey, such as gas cards, lodging accommodations and more that are not typically covered by insurance,” says Lauren Denton, director of philanthropy at Altru Health Foundation. “We are so grateful for the continued generosity of our community to make a difference for our patients.”

In 2018, more than 1,200 patients at Altru Cancer Center received assistance through Filling the Gap. 27 children with chronic conditions qualified for Caring for Kids grants. So far in 2019, over 84 trips have been supported by Caring for Kids. That adds up to more than 25,300 miles!

Altru’s Gala 2019 will Support Cardiology

Altru Health System, Grand Forks, ND – Altru Health Foundation is excited to announce that Altru’s Gala 2019 will enrich lives one beat at a time by supporting cardiology. Along with the main event sponsor Alerus, Altru Health Foundation will host the fifteenth annual gala on September 28, 2019, at the Alerus Center.

Altru’s Gala 2019 will focus on improving cardiac care throughout the community and region through education, prevention screenings, technology and diagnostic equipment.

Your heart is the hardest working muscle in your body. It pumps approximately 2,000 gallons of blood every day. The work your heart does day in and day out often goes unnoticed, for many it is taken for granted until there is a concern.

The good news is that 80% of heart disease can be prevented through lifestyle changes. The key to prevention is knowing your family history, controlling your risk factors and early detection.

Generosity from donors at Altru’s Gala 2019 will increase the number of heart and vascular screenings offered to the public. These 90-minute ultrasound screenings require no prep work or pain but can detect possible complications before they develop into a major health issue. In addition, new diagnostic equipment will support patients who are receiving cardiac care and new technology will be used to educate patients about heart healthy living.

If you are interested in attending or sponsoring Altru’s Gala 2019 please contact the Altru Health Foundation at 701.780.5600 or foundation@altru.org.
