Run for your buns was started nine years ago to create awareness surrounding
colon cancer prevention.
Colon Cancer is the second most leading cause of cancer death in the United States
for men and women and it is a preventable disease. One in twenty adults
have a lifetime risk of colon cancer. Early screenings with colonoscopy
have a 95-98% success rate of detecting and removing cancer. American
Cancer Society guidelines for screening for colorectal cancer have just
been updated from 50 years old to 45 to save more lives as studies show
rates of colorectal cancer among people younger than 50 are on the rise.
Run for Your Buns is an annual 5K run/walk benefiting colon cancer prevention. Net proceeds will be donated to Altru Health Foundation to help uninsured and underinsured individuals pay for screening colonoscopies. Everyone is invited to join in on the 10th Annual and final Run For Your Buns 5K on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 8 a.m.! This family friendly race promotes health and fitness, while raising awareness for colon cancer screening. The event is held at Lincoln Park, with the race showcasing the Greater Grand Forks Greenway.
