Altru’s Gala 2016 to Support Kids’ Health
Grand Forks, ND – Altru Health Foundation is proud to announce that Altru’s Gala 2016 will benefit Altru’s Child Life Program and Camp Good Mourning. Along with Alerus, the main event sponsor, Altru Health Foundation will host the twelfth annual gala on September 10, 2016, at the Alerus Center.
Many times when a child visits a hospital, it can be a stressful and scary experience. Some are visiting relatives who might not be with them much longer, some are going through difficult treatments, and some will have to travel to a specialist away from their homes. Kids going through these difficult times need more than treatment; they need extra support and care. Altru employs one child life specialist who helps up to 2,500 children per year cope with these difficult situations.
Camp Good Mourning is an annual three-day grief camp for 50 children and teens, ages six through 18, who have experienced the death of a loved one. Each child is partnered with their own “buddy” volunteer, in order for them to receive one-on-one support. Staff of Altru’s Hospice and trained volunteers facilitate group sessions and activities to help children and teens express their feelings, learn healthy coping strategies and share experiences.
Altru’s Gala 2016 will provide support for children and teens going through difficult situations at Altru Hospital. Funds raised will decrease the financial barriers of mental health issues for children and teens that some families unfortunately experience.
