New Graduate Nurse Residency Program

Our Nurse Residency program guides new registered nurses through a yearlong onboarding process to create a smooth transition from student to professional nurse.

2023 Program Overview

February 2023 Cohort

  • Start date: February 13, 2023
  • Recommended to apply by January 13, 2023.

April 2023 Cohort

  • Start date: April 10, 2023
  • Recommended to apply by March 17, 2023.

June 2023 Cohort

  • Start date: June 19th, 2023
  • Recommended to apply by May 26, 2023.

July/August 2023 Cohort

  • Start date: July 31, 2023
  • Recommended to apply by July 7, 2023.

October 2023 Cohort

  • Start date: October 9, 2023
  • Recommended to apply by September 15, 2023.

Phase One

  • Weekly learning labs led by our nursing educators
  • Hands on skill review
  • Altru Policy/Procedure review
  • Simulation
  • Interdisciplinary shadow experiences

Phase Two

Monthly Learning Labs with peers, clinical educators, and other content experts to increase knowledge and skills

Topics include:

  • Quality
  • Safety
  • Teamwork & Communication
  • Informatics
  • Patient-Centered Care
  • Evidence Based Practice
  • Care for the Nurse
  • Simulation including mega-code, stroke, declining patient
  • Patient care project

Eligibility:

Qualifying nurses with less than 12 months of acute RN experience will be automatically enrolled in the program.

Do I need a bachelor’s degree?
No, all nurses regardless of degree level with less than 12 months of acute RN experience, will be automatically enrolled in the program.

Will I be hired into a specific RN position, or will I be hired into the Nurse Residency Program and choose my permanent position after the program completes?
You will be hired into a specific inpatient unit. You will complete the NRP program in conjunction with working in your unit. Your schedule will be adjusted to accommodate NRP attendance.

How often is the program offered?
Generally, 5 times per year.

If hired, what shifts/hours will I work?
The leader determines the position requirements for the unit you are hired into. Your schedule will be adjusted to accommodate NRP attendance.

Will I be paid?
Yes, you will be paid for all NRP hours completed.
