Lake Region State College Apprenticeship
In partnership with Lake Region State College, Altru offers apprenticeships
that allow students to earn a wage and fund their education while completing
on-the-job training to supplement their education. This apprenticeship
program is registered with the United States Department of Labor and approved
by the ND Board of Nursing.
Who can participate in this program?
Students enrolled in a CNA, LPN or RN program at Lake Region State College
can apply for apprenticeship. Apprentices must sign a 3-year commitment
to continue employment with Altru post-graduation.
How do apprentices earn and learn during this program?
Apprentices must complete 2,000 hours of on-the-job training during their
apprenticeship. During this time, they will be paid a tiered wage based
on their current skill set, which will in turn be advanced by their on-the-job
training. The apprentice’s tuition will also be paid by Altru; however,
tuition costs must be reimbursed if the apprentice does not complete their
program or employment commitment.
When do apprenticeships begin?
The next cohort of apprenticeships will begin during the fall 2024 semester.
The deadline to apply for a 2024 apprenticeship is July 8, 2024.
Nursing Co-op
Nursing Co-op positions are available to nursing students enrolled in a
baccalaureate program. This program allows students to earn a wage while
earning hands-on experience and credit for their schoolings.
Who can participate in this program?
Any nursing student enrolled in a baccalaureate program can apply for nursing
co-op position.
How do nursing co-ops earn and learn during this program?
Nursing co-ops are paid positions that allow students to participate in
hands-on experiences while earning credit toward their degree.
When do nursing co-ops begin?
The Nursing Co-op is a 10-week summer program that begins each May.
School to Career Internships
School to Career Internships are available to high school students during
summer break. This program provides students an introduction to the healthcare
world, allows for relationship building and empowers students to have
open conversations about future career options.
Who can participate in this program?
School to Career Internships are available for a variety of roles and departments
depending on needs of the health system. Interns must be at least 16 years
old by June 1st of the year they are seeking employment and entering their
junior or senior year of high school. Intern applicants will follow the
normal application and interview process.
How do interns earn and learn during this program?
School to Career Internships will be paid the wage agreed to upon accepting
their position. The hands-on experiences provided by taking part in an
internship allows the intern to learn about working in healthcare and
expand their skill set.
When do School to Career Internships begin?
The School to Career Internship is 10-week program that begins in June
and extends to mid-August. Exact dates will be discussed during the hiring process.
