Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

  • Categories: Healthcare Education

About This Event

The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) has developed and implemented the Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) as a means of identifying a standardized body of trauma nursing knowledge. The purpose of TNCC is to present core-level knowledge and psychomotor skills associated with implementing the trauma process. By educating nurses to provide competent trauma care, morbidity and mortality of trauma patients can be significantly reduced. It is the intent of ENA that participants in TNCC be given the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, refine skills, and build a firm foundation in trauma nursing.

Intended Participants

TNCC may be officially attended by Registered Nurses. LPNs and Paramedics are eligible to attend all portions of the course except for the written and psychomotor evaluations. For this reason, they do not receive verification but are awarded contact hours.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the participant will have demonstrated the ability to:

  • Identify common mechanisms of injury associated with traumatic injuries
  • Analyze pathophysiologic changes as a basis for signs and symptoms
  • Discuss the nursing assessment of the trauma patient
  • Identify appropriate nursing diagnosis and expected outcomes
  • Plan appropriate interventions for trauma patients

TNCC Verification

A verification card will be issued from ENA upon successful completion of the evaluated psychomotor skill stations and the multiple-choice examination. ENA does offer CECH upon completion of this course.
