Philosophy of Medicine
"The biggest influences in my path towards medicine were my family and my local community. I was fortunate to grow up in a rural area in southwest North Dakota with the influence of a mother who was a PA and parents who provided volunteer medical care through the local ambulance service. My youngest brother was born with a disability, and through helping care for him and watching his impact on the community, I learned patience and the importance of acceptance. When it came to deciding on a career, I knew I wanted to help people and felt that for me medicine was the best way to do that. I always wanted to return to a rural community and chose family medicine because it allowed me to care for patients and families in all aspects of their health. I feel it is an honor to be allowed to be present for some of the most private and personal aspects of a patient's life, from birth to death."
