As a service to our patients, Altru Health System provides staff to assist you in filing insurance and Medicare claims.
If you have medical insurance, our staff will prepare your insurance claims for all services rendered at Altru Health System and submit these to your insurance company. There is no charge for this service. It is the patient's responsibility, however, to provide us with required insurance information, including:
Family policies require patients provide the names and birth dates of all family members. If you file your own claims, Altru will provide the information you need upon request.
If you are finding it difficult navigating all of the steps of obtaining health insurance through the Marketplace or are interested in seeing if you qualify for medical assistance, let us help you. Altru Health System’s HERO Program will have certified application counselors on hand to help you through each step to finding health insurance which fits you and/or your family’s personal needs.
Enrollees should bring financial information (tax return, pay stub, W-2) and identification card (social security number or document number for legal immigrants).
Call for an appointment: 701.780.5060.
Altru is a participating Medicare provider. This means Medicare will pay Altru for services provided to Medicare patients. If you qualify for Medicare, it is your responsibility to pay any Medicare deductibles, co-payments and non-covered charges. It is important that you provide us with your Medicare number and effective date. When we have this information, we can file claims directly to Medicare.
Altru will also assist in filing claims to your supplemental policies if you provide us the information requested of you, the policyholder. Please keep in mind that insurance is not a substitute for payment to Altru Health System. Some insurance companies pay fixed allowances for certain procedures, while others pay a fixed percentage of the charge. It is the patient's responsibility to pay any deductible amount, co-insurance or other balances not paid by your insurance company.

We know it’s common to change insurance coverage at the beginning of a new year. Additionally, in 2020, Altru has three payers (Medicare, Sanford and Ucare) that have changed subscriber ID information and issued new insurance cards to members.
For us to be able to submit claims to the correct payer on your behalf, please be sure to provide us with your most updated information. If you have changes in your insurance policy, please log in to your MyChart account and upload a photo of the front and back of your most current card. If you prefer to update your records in person, we are happy to help. You can bring your new insurance card to your next appointment or visit one of our business office locations.
