Grand Forks, N.D. – Alerus, City of Grand Forks, and Altru Care Team are pleased to announce the Frontline Workers Festival, a celebration of gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our community’s essential workers, on Sunday, December 20. This community event is open to the public and free of charge. The celebration will include a car parade and a fireworks display as a thank you to all essential workers.

“Alerus is proud to support this event and recognize our frontline workers, who continue working tirelessly to help us all through the pandemic,” says Chris Wolf, northern valley market president at Alerus. “It’s been a very difficult year for everyone, so we hope our community takes this opportunity to show their appreciation and enjoy a light moment as a reminder that we will all get through this together.” Altru Care Team is an ad hoc assembly of community members, business operators and health care personnel focused on supporting frontline workers and our community in the fight against COVID-19.

Community members are encouraged to decorate vehicles and show their support for all essential workers and join the family-friendly car parade, which will extend from the Ralph Engelstad Arena parking lot to Altru Hospital and end at the Alerus Center. Assembly for the car parade will begin at Ralph Engelstad Arena at 4 pm. The parade will be escorted by Grand Forks Police Department and depart south on South Columbia Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. The parade route includes Altru Hospital at 1200 South Columbia Road, Valley Senior Living on Columbia, and will end at the Alerus Center parking lot via 14th Avenue South to South 30th Street and 11th Avenue South.

This socially distanced event will culminate with a fireworks display celebrating all frontline and essential workers at 6 p.m. Viewers of the fireworks display not participating in the parade are encouraged to enter and park at the Alerus Center parking lot by 5:30 p.m.
