Altru Health System Pauses Construction on New Hospital

Posted OnApril 02, 2020

Grand Forks, N.D. – Altru Health System’s Board of Directors and Executive Team today announced they are pausing construction of its new hospital to prioritize operational resources on patient care and employee support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Like many other hospitals, Altru is making the adjustments required to ensure we can provide care to all patients during this unprecedented time,” said Dr. Steven Weiser, president, Altru Health System. “We don’t know exactly how COVID-19 will impact our community, only that it will. Pausing construction allows us to direct our focus to care for patients and supporting the Altru team members who provide that critical care; it is the responsible decision for our community and region at this time.”

Altru will continue to regularly monitor the operational impact of the COVID-19 spread and will resume hospital construction when deemed appropriate by its Board and leadership team. “We will have a new hospital,” said Weiser. “We look forward to resuming construction and building the hospital our community and region needs and our patients, physicians, and staff deserve.”
