Altru Health System will receive its first allocation of the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, December 16. 450 doses of the vaccine are anticipated in this first allotment. The vaccine is from the manufacturer Pfizer and will come to Altru via the North Dakota Department of Health. Altru will be utilizing this and future allocations, which we anticipate receiving on a weekly basis, to vaccinate our staff. Healthcare workers have been determined as a priority group, Altru has aligned with the North Dakota Department of Health guidelines to prioritize staff to receive the vaccine first based on their likelihood of direct contact with patients who have COVID-19. Altru is not part of plans to vaccinate the public at this time. The vaccine is being made available under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and will not be mandatory for Altru staff yet will be highly recommended as an important tool in the fight against COVID-19.

For more information about the vaccine, the community should refer to reputable sources, including the CDC, the Department of Health, and healthcare providers.
