This type of disease causes blockages in the arteries and veins to the brain that may increase the risk of ischemic stroke. Ischemic stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the brain and obstructs blood flow. It can also result from of narrowed arteries related to atherosclerosis.
