Safe Kids Grand Forks
Keeping kids safe at HOME, at SCHOOL, at PLAY and ON the WAY.
Who We Are
Safe Kids Grand Forks is an injury prevention coalition whose mission is to reduce the number of preventable injuries to children under age 19 – the leading cause of their death. Safe Kids Grand Forks is part of a worldwide network of coalitions all working toward this same goal. In fact, there are over 440 coalitions in the United States and in over 30 countries around the world.
Altru Health System has been proud to serve as the lead agency for Safe Kids Grand Forks since they were founded in 1992. We have been proud to serve in this capacity and are grateful to the many businesses, agencies, service clubs and individuals that have come together to support this work. Together, we can accomplish so much more than any one of us could for injury prevention on our own. We are proud to join forces to keep kids safe at HOME, at SCHOOL, at PLAY and ON the WAY.
Safe Kids Grand Forks is a department within Altru Health System and they are located in our Altru Clinic in East Grand Forks. Often, they are out and about in the community conducting classes or events so we strongly encourage you to call and make an appointment prior to stopping by for assistance since they are not staffed as a normal clinic department would be. You can call 701.780.1489 or email email@example.com.

Honors and Accomplishments
Safe Kids Worldwide Lead Agency Award
Shown here presenting and accepting this award are from L-R: Torine Creppy – President of Safe Kids Worldwide, Senator John Hoeven – US Senator from ND, Carma Hanson – Coordinator of Safe Kids Grand Forks and Dr. Susan Zelewski – Pediatrician at Altru Health System
In 2019, Altru Health System was honored to be a co-recipient of the Safe Kids Worldwide Lead Agency Award offered during PrevCon, the bi-annual Safe Kids Worldwide Conference.
In 2013, Safe Kids Grand Forks was named as the Outstanding Coalition of the Year out of all the coalitions in the United States. This honor is a testament to the support and commitment of our dedicated team of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to prevent injuries and death to children.
Safe Kids Grand Forks operates almost entirely from grant funding and donations from individuals. All donations made to the Coalition are spent on safety devices and injury prevention programs. Administrative costs for the Coalition are provided by the lead agency, Altru Health System.
Please help us keep kids safe - even a small donation will make a difference.
Your donation in any amount is appreciated and will be used in the risk areas of greatest need unless otherwise specified by the donor. Thanks for your donation and support of our injury prevention efforts.
Make a Difference >>
We are set up as a 501(c)3 corporation so your contributions are considered a charitable donation. If you are interested in providing a donation of products (i.e. car seats, bike helmets, smoke alarms, etc.), please contact Carma Hanson, Coalition Coordinator to make arrangements. Donations such as these are always welcome.
If you are interested in donating your time to Safe Kids, please contact the Coordinator and your talents will be matched with the Coalition's many volunteer needs. We always have needs to fill for teens through adult-aged helpers. Some activities include interactions at events, while others include "behind the scenes" prep work. We will match your skills to a volunteer project!
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer toward the goal of preventing childhood injuries. For more information on being an event or program sponsor, contact the Coalition with your request.
