Home-Based Therapy is the same therapy services you would receive in a clinic, but in the comfort of your own home. Therapy in the home is most appropriate for individuals who have physical, mobility or other challenges preventing them from regularly attending therapy appointments in a clinic setting.
Individuals often benefit from receiving physical, occupational or speech therapy services in their natural environment where they can practice skills they need to be safe and independent in their own home setting. Examples include being able to safely go up and down stairs in their own home, being able to cook a meal in their own kitchen, and being able to communicate with family members and friends.
How is Home-Based Therapy Billed?
Those receiving home-based therapy will be billed just as if they were coming into the clinic setting through their personal medical insurance including Medicare part B and Medicare supplement plans. This is different than receiving therapy services at home under a home health agency plan of care, with additional requirements. These often include being qualified for skilled Medicare part A coverage typically following a hospitalization or skilled nursing stay and require the individual to be “homebound.”
