Running is not only a terrific way to get in shape but also an excellent way to manage life’s stresses. However, an injury or strain from running can slow your pace of life. Altru Physical Therapy treats a variety of injuries to get you back up and running.
What to expect during your physical therapy evaluation?
During your evaluation, a physical therapist (PT) will ask you questions regarding your shoes, training schedule, training surface, recovery techniques, and more to try to figure out what could be causing injuries to occur and how they can be corrected. The PT will perform a physical examination to determine any strength or flexibility imbalances that could be contributing to injuries. They may also perform a video running analysis to be able to observe any issues with your running form that may be causing injuries.
How can physical therapy treat running injuries?
Based on the results of the physical examination and the video analysis your PT will develop an individualized exercise program including any flexibility and strengthening exercises they feel will be beneficial in helping you recover and prevent running injuries. They will also supply suggestions on improving your running form and changes to your training plan that can also help you prevent future injuries so that you can have more success and less pain with running.
What to do if you are a runner and you are injured?
Set up an appointment to be evaluated by a PT that is specially trained in treating runners. They can help you determine the cause of your injury and correct it so you can keep putting miles in, you may not even have to stop running to heal your injury.
