Description

Pain that happens when a gallstone is being passed and is blocking a bile duct. It typically comes and goes in a regular pattern.

Self-care

Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and naproxen sodium (Aleve, others) may ease pain. Avoiding fatty foods may help prevent biliary colic attacks.

  • Severe pain.
  • Yellow tint to the eyes or skin.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Sweating.
  • Dehydration.
