Chew food thoroughly, eat smaller meals and try foods with different textures. Avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and any foods that may be hard to swallow.
When to seek immediate medical care
See a healthcare professional immediately if:
- Trouble breathing.
- Lasting feeling that food is stuck in throat.
- Can't swallow anything.
When to make a doctor's appointment
Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if:
- Lasts more than a few days.
- Losing weight without trying.
- Vomiting.
