Self-care
Brush teeth and tongue after eating, floss at least once a day, and replace toothbrush regularly. Avoid foods known to cause bad breath, such as onions and garlic.
When to make a doctor's appointment
See a doctor if:
- Accompanied by fever or nasal discharge with pus
- Mouth sores can be seen or felt
- Persists after self-treatment
- Accompanied by heartburn symptoms or chest pain
