Lower GI bleed
Definitions
Overview
Causes of lower GI bleeding include constipation, hemorrhoids, and cancer. Massive bleeding can be dangerous. Small amounts of bleeding over time may lead to conditions, such as anemia.
Symptoms
It can appear as blood in the stool, on toilet paper, or in the toilet bowl. Blood may appear dark maroon to bright red.
Treatments
With lower GI bleeding, it's important to see a doctor. Immediate medical care may be necessary.
