Caring Nurse Comforts Patient Before, During and After Procedure
Grand Forks, N.D. - Josi Dotterer, RN, a nurse at Altru Health System in 3 West Medical Specialty, is being honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care nurses provide patients and families every day.
“The second she came into my room she made me feel cared for and that my needs mattered,” Josi’s patient said. “When I found out I'd have a central line placed, I was panicked to say the least. Josi was there to ease my fears.”
The nurse stayed with her patient through the procedure, held her patient’s hand and wiped their tears.
“She truly went above and beyond in every aspect,” her patient wrote. “I could never fully put into words how much it meant to have her there for me. She not only cared for me, she cared about me. I'll forever be grateful!”
Josi has worked at Altru since 2021.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known, but not uncommon, auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
