Patient Grateful for Kindness After Receiving Devastating News
Grand Forks, N.D. - Joan Glennen, RN at Altru Cancer Center, has been recognized with the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses ®. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care nurses provide patients and families every day.
Joan went above and beyond to comfort a patient who was diagnosed with stage three melanoma.
“She was often the nurse who received the unenviable duty of dealing with my moods, whether they were created by cancer, the variety of drugs used and needed to treat it, or moodiness,” her patient said. “I would like her to be specially recognized for her ability to allay potential fears by taking her time to educate and explain.”
Joan’s dedication to caring for her patients continues to shine through.
The patients’ cancer metastasized causing the need for another surgery and change in infusion regimen. The patient explained how much he appreciated how Joan “took the time to explain what to watch for and how to monitor my changes.”
