Express Video Visit
Get the care you need from home, work or anywhere in between. Altru's Express Video Visits allow patients to receive care for conditions such as those listed below anywhere you have internet access from your smartphone or tablet. Patients can request a video visit through their active MyChart account.
Express Video Visits are available Sunday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

How do Express Video Visits work?
Video visits can be requested by patients through their active MyChart account on their smartphone or tablet. For the best possible experience, we encourage patients to use the MyChart app on their smartphone or tablet.
Patients will be asked to log into their MyChart account and then follow the prompt to request their video visit. Patients must complete the visit pre-check work before connecting with a provider.

Who is eligible for an Express Video Visit?
Video visits are intended for providing care for acute illnesses and minor injuries. Age-appropriate care may be determined by the provider for each condition. You must have an active MyChart account to start an Express Video Visit. Children under the age of 2 are not eligible for a video visit.
What equipment do I need for an Express Video Visit?
You can use your smartphone or tablet once you've downloaded the MyChart app.
How are Video Visits billed?
Altru will bill your insurance for the cost of your video visit. If your insurance does not pay the full amount due, you may be responsible for the balance, including any copays or deductible. Though Video Visits are covered by many insurance policies, there are still some insurance policies that will not cover Video Visits for patients at home. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to confirm your insurance coverage.
If a Video Visit IS a covered benefit:
If you have coverage, then your plan will process Video Visits the same as a face-to-face visit and assign copay, coinsurance and/or deductible based on your plan benefits. Covered benefits are not eligible for the patient pay discount.
If a Video Visit is NOT a covered benefit:
If your insurance does not offer Video Visits as a covered benefit, you may be eligible for a self-pay patient discount for the Video Visit. Call Altru Patient Financial Services at 701.780.1500 once you receive your bill for the service. Medicare patients should automatically receive the discount and will not need to call Patient Financial Services for the discount.
If you are uninsured or under insured and your insurance does not cover this service, you may be eligible for financial assistance. Please contact a hospital finance assistance representative at 701.780.1500.

Express eVisits allow you to initiate an appointment with a family medicine provider through your MyChart patient portal from the comfort of your home. To begin an eVisit, log in to your patient portal via your smartphone, tablet or computer, and fill out a questionnaire about your symptoms. Then, use our secure messaging system to discuss your symptoms with a provider, who can recommend treatment, order prescriptions to your pharmacy or, if necessary, request an in-person visit.
Concerns we commonly treat through eVisits include but are not limited to:
- Cough or sore throat
- Pink eye
- Sinus issues
- Skin concerns, such as burns, insect bites and rashes
eVisits can be initiated any day, anytime. Our providers will respond within four hours of your initiation during the following business hours:
- Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
- Weekends and holidays, 10 a.m.–7 p.m.
Providers respond to eVisits initiated after 7 p.m. no later than 11 a.m. the next day.
