Staying Close to Home, Cori’s Breast Cancer Journey at Altru Cancer Center

September 30, 2025

In April 2022, a busy mom of two received news that would change her life: a diagnosis of Stage 3 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Balancing full-time work and family, she faced the overwhelming question: how could she manage treatment while staying close to the people who needed her most?

The answer came through the dedicated team at Altru Cancer Center. While all treatment options, including Mayo Clinic, were discussed, she felt confident in the exceptional care she had already experienced at Altru. That trust only deepened after her final diagnosis.

Fast, Compassionate Care Close to Home

The Altru Breast Center team moved quickly, ensuring no time was lost. Follow-up appointments, scans, and treatment plans were coordinated seamlessly. By May 5, 2022, she began her first round of chemotherapy.

“The care, safety, and trust Altru Cancer Center provides is hard to put into words,” she shared. “Walking in, you’re treated as a person, not just a number.”

From the front desk to the nursing staff to the physicians, every interaction was marked by compassion, professionalism, and genuine concern for her well-being.

Navigating a Long Treatment Road

By August 2022, her initial chemotherapy sessions were complete. The next month brought surgery, and with it, difficult news: her lymph nodes were still positive. More chemotherapy and radiation would be needed.
She pressed forward, finishing chemotherapy in August 2023. Along the way, she had multiple procedures and kept up with regular follow-up visits. Even during routine six-month checkups, she says the warmth and care from the staff at Altru Cancer Center are just as strong as ever.

More Than Medical Care

Though she is no longer undergoing chemotherapy, her journey continues. For her, the steady compassion of Altru has been just as vital as the treatments themselves.

“It’s the same great care and attitude every single time I walk through the doors,” she said.
Her story reminds us that exceptional cancer care is about more than just advanced treatments; it’s about creating a place where patients feel safe, respected, and supported throughout their entire journey.
