Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Geriatrics Department at UND - SMHS seeks a fellowship trained Geriatrician for a full-time faculty/community physician position at Altru Health Systems (50%/50%). The successful candidate will lead and advance Geriatrics education, including interprofessional community service learning and health equity clinical training. The role requires active participation in scholarly activities related to education or clinical research. The incumbent helps administer a $5 million Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) – funded health equity and Geriatrics training grant.
At Altru, the Physician's role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients, providing comprehensive care. Physician responsibilities include counseling patients on preventive healthcare measures and exercising professional judgment in alignment with Altru’s policies and standards. The position requires achieving annual Patient Engagement and Quality & Safety goals, supporting department objectives, and maintaining accurate and timely documentation to ensure quality patient care.
Minimum Requirements
- MD / DO degree with board certification or board eligibility in Geriatric Medicine.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in North Dakota and must be insurable under the Health System’s professional liability carrier prior to commencement of employment.
- Experience in Geriatrics education, curriculum development, and interprofessional training with evidence of scholarly activity in education or clinical research.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Must be granted medical staff appointments at Altru and associated facilities as are necessary to the commission of duties prior to commencement of employment.
- Successful completion of a criminal history records check.

Preferred Requirements
- Training in quality improvement or research methodology.
- Clinical experience in the continuum of health care.
