Acute respiratory disease syndrome
Definitions
Overview
In acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), fluid collects in the air sacs in the lungs, depriving organs of oxygen. ARDS can occur in those who are critically ill or who have significant injuries.
Treatments
Treatment includes oxygen, fluid management, and medication. ARDS is often fatal, the risk increasing with age and severity of illness.
