If an atheroma breaks open, a blood clot can form. An atheroma may be found when tests are done for another health condition.

Symptoms

There may not be any symptoms. Symptoms depend on whether blood flow is reduced or blocked.

Treatments

Treatment includes lifestyle changes. Eat healthy, get regular exercise and do not smoke. Other treatments may include medicines, a heart procedure or surgery.
