Description

An irregular and often very fast heart rhythm. Also called AFib.

Overview

Atrial fibrillation is a common heart rhythm disorder. It can cause blood clots in the heart that increase the risk of stroke.

Symptoms

Symptoms include a fast, fluttering or pounding heartbeat, dizziness, shortness of breath, and weakness. It may be hard to exercise. Some people do not notice symptoms.

Treatments

Treatment may include medicines, a shock to the heart, and a heart procedure called cardiac ablation.
