Cataract

Definitions

Overview

A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, which is usually clear. Most cataracts develop slowly.

Symptoms

Symptoms of cataracts include:

  • Clouded or blurry vision.
  • Trouble seeing at night.
  • Sensitivity to light and glare.

Treatments

When a cataract starts to make usual activities difficult, the cloudy lens can be replaced with a clear, artificial lens with surgery. This is generally a safe, outpatient procedure.
