Overview
Contact dermatitis is a skin rash caused by contact with a substance.
Symptoms
The substance might irritate the skin or trigger an allergic reaction. Culprits include soap, cosmetics, fragrances, jewelry, and poison ivy.
Treatments
Avoiding the irritant or allergen should allow the rash to clear in 2 to 4 weeks. Creams or medicines can help ease itching.
