Diverticulosis is a condition in which small, bulging pouches called diverticula develop in the digestive tract. It's common after age 40.

Symptoms

Usually, no symptoms occur with diverticulosis. But when the diverticula become inflamed or infected, the condition is called diverticulitis.

Treatments

Treatment generally isn't needed unless there are diverticulitis symptoms, such as fever and belly pain.
