A vision condition in which objects far away are seen more clearly than objects that are close.
Overview
Farsightedness, also called hyperopia, is a common vision condition. It's usually present at birth and runs in families.
Symptoms
People with hyperopia must squint to see nearby objects. Reading, writing, computer work or drawing for long periods of time may cause eye pain and headache.
Treatments
Treatment options include eyeglasses, contact lenses and surgery such as laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, also called LASIK.
