Joint dislocation
Definitions
An injury where bone joints are forced out of their usual position.
Overview
A dislocation occurs when joints, such as shoulders, elbows or fingers, are forced out of their usual position. It often happens from a fall, an auto accident or while participating in sports.
Symptoms
The injury will temporarily deform and immobilize the joint. A dislocation may cause sudden and serious pain and swelling.
Treatments
Prompt medical attention is needed to put the joint back in place, followed by several weeks of rest.
