Overview

Marfan syndrome is an inherited disorder that affects connective tissue in the body. Connective tissue helps support structures such as organs, bones and blood vessels. Marfan syndrome most commonly affects the heart, eyes, blood vessels and bones.

Symptoms

People with Marfan syndrome are usually tall and thin with long arms, legs, fingers and toes. Very poor eyesight and a chest wall that sticks out or in also are common.

Treatments

Treatment includes medicines to keep blood pressure low to reduce strain on the heart. Eyeglasses or contact lenses can help with vision issues. Sometimes surgery to repair the heart is needed.
